Description
The closer you look at the orchid flower, the more its remarkable architecture and artistry comes into focus.
The orchid is an incredibly complex flower, different from all other plant families. The flower has six lobes, arranged in two whorls of three. The simple bright white sepals are the outer three, the inner larger lobed set are called the petals.
Looking nothing like the other two petals, this image is of the median petal which has undergone an extreme modification to lure its pollinator to the center of the flower - what an exquisite creation of nature!
